Welcome to special edition of Beauty Knockouts.  It was a really tough choice, but these are the top five, must-have beauty products for 2009.  Enjoy!

vaseline-sheer-infusion-body-lotionVaseline Sheer Infusion Body Lotion ($7.99)

You have seen the Cirque du Soleil commercials with women twirling on ropes.  You have seen the ads in magazines.  But, does this Infusion cream actual suspend the moisturizer between the top, middle and bottom layers of your skin?  If the cream came with a microscope, you might really be able to tell.  What you do know is that your skin feels well-moisturized and smooth, and has that feeling all day long.  If you need a new moisturizer, the BK Squad agrees – give this one a try.

loreal-telescopic-explosion-mascaraL’Oreal Telescopic Explosion Mascara ($8.99)

Here is a cheaper version of the Givenchy mascara with its medieval, mace-looking wand.  The L’Oreal edition is more of an oval than a circle, but still has the soft, plastic spikes coming off of it in different directions that make it look like a torture device.  The advantage of the spherical shape is that you can make sure you get mascara on each and every eyelash.  There is nowhere to hide.  The disadvantage is that because you have to apply the mascara in this manner, the product tends to clump up your lashes.  Stick with modern, 2010 mascara weapons in your fight against short and sparse lashes.  It is the 21st century after all.

eucerin-q10-anti-wrinkle-sensitive-skin-lotionEucerin Q10 Anti-Wrinkle Sensitive Skin Lotion SPF 15 ($9.89)

Like the Eucerin Daily Moisturizer previously recommended, this lotion has the same benefits.  It protects you from the sun’s rays with its SPF protection and feels light on your skin.  The one added ingredient is the Q10 anti-oxidant which helps smooth fine lines.  It will not make them disappear completely – see you local plastic surgeon for such miracles – but it will make your skin smoother.  In general, the lotion feels thicker than most daily moisturizers, yet stays put under makeup.  This Eucerin product is a fine, anti-aging moisturizer to add to your collection.

hydrolyzeHydrolyze Eye Treatment ($70.00)

First off, this is a very expensive cream.  It will cost you a whopping $840.00 a year once taxes and shipping costs are included.  That’s a big commitment for an eye cream.  Some commitments, like boyfriends, are worth it, and others are bad boy choices that you later regret.  So, you can see the decision is not quite so simple.  Overall, this is good cream.  It does diminish dark circles under your eyes, ease puffiness, reduce the appearance of fine lines and is even gentle enough for the most sensitive skin types in the BK Squad.  But for $70.00 a month is it a match made in heaven?  The BK Squad says to look for comparable over-the-counter solutions and leave this high-maintenance cream for someone else.

opi-nail-polish-sensitive-and-peeling-nail-envyOPI Nails Sensitive & Peeling Nail Envy ($13.69)

OPI is an excellent brand.  They make wonderful nail polishes in a rainbow of colors.  Too bad they don’t make a good base coat for sensitive nails that peel.  This polish goes on very heavy and gloppy, making it hard to get any other nail color on top of it.  To make matters worse, it takes a long time to dry.  Stay clear of this base coat and try a cheaper Sally Hansen solution instead.

That’s all for this week.  Have fun trying trusted products and enjoy!

Welcome to special edition of Beauty Knockouts.  It was a really tough choice, but these are the top five, must-have beauty products for 2009.  Enjoy!

rimmel-sexy-curves-mascaraRimmel Sexy Curves Mascara ($7.50)

The truth is there isn’t a whole lot of difference between the results of Rimmel Sexy Curves and the expensive, department store brands.  This is good thing.  Sexy Curves has a brush with plastic bristles, so you can avoid any clumping that is typical of mascaras – they really work!  The Rimmel’s brush is shaped like an hourglass which is little strange at first, but seems to get the job done.  The mascara separates your lashes, adds length, some volume and a little curl.  Should you still use your eyelash curler?  Yes, every little bit helps for us mere mortals.

neosporinNeosporin Maximum Strength First Aid Antibiotic Ointment ($9.89)

Yes, Neosporin!  The one and only cream your Mommy would put on your boo boos when you were little, and that you use now to treat a paper cut that just won’t go away.  This product works well to get rid of blemishes that are just below the surface and ones that have reared their ugly heads.  For the latter circumstance, in a one, two punch, use in conjunction with Clearasil Cream Maximum Strength.  Put a small dab of Clearasil on first and then put a little Neosporin on top.  Repeat before applying your moisturizer in the morning and at night.  It will make the blemish go away 2x as fast.  Seriously.  In the former circumstance, where you know the blemish is coming and planning its attack, put just the Neosporin on the spot.  It will diminish the impact of any blemish, squash it in its tracks and leave your skin supple.

band-aid-blisterblockBand-Aid Activ-Flex Friction Block Stick ($6.99)

This product is well deserving of its place on the Top Five list for 2009.  It is an absolute must-have.  You need not suffer for shoe-beauty any longer.  If you don’t have one, you need one.  Seriously.  The shape of it (like a mini-deodorant) and consistency (like wax) are perfect for application and prevent any and all blisters, chaffing or rubbing from your new, beautiful Louboutin heels to your Tory Burch flats, or your Payless pumps to your new favorite flip-flops.  Use with all your new and old shoes that you love, but know you can’t be in very long because you will probably get a blister and suffer.  It can be found in the foot aisle at your local supermarket or drugstore, or online at CVS.com.

sally-hansen-dries-instantly-top-coatSally Hansen Insta-Dri Anti-Chip Top Coat ($4.29)

This nail polish top coat does exactly what it says it will.  It literally dries your nail polish in 30-seconds.  Apply any nail polish color you want, wait two minutes and then apply the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Top Coat.  That’s it.  The top layers of your nail polish will be dry to the touch and you can go on your merry way.

living-proof-styling-creamLiving Proof Straight Making No Frizz Styling Cream ($24.00)

This styling cream works well for straight and curly styles.  Use a small amount in your hand.  The second you put it on your hair, it completely disappears.  Seriously.  You think that this will turn out to be a mess, but somehow it changes the way you view your hair and what it can do.  After drying your hair in your usual way, which somehow takes less time now, your hair will look glossy and have extra volume where you want it.  It will be void of frizz.  It’s as if your strands of hair have finally realized who is boss, once and for all.  Your hair will hold its style incredibly well.  Your locks almost feel sticky, like when you use a really good hairspray, but you can still put your fingers through your soft, shiny tresses.  Your hairdo lasts all day, while kicking humidity in the rear end.  It is bizarre and wonderful all at the same time.

Welcome to another edition of BeautyKnockouts.com!  Check out the products below.

la-mer-cleansing-foamLa Mer Cleansing Foam ($65.00)

La Mer is la crème de la crème of skincare lines and it has hefty price tag to prove it.  After all, their products are touted by movie stars with envious, flawless skin.  So, how did it fare when tested by BK Squad members?  Not as good as you would hope.  One BK Squad member said the fragrance reminded her of baby lotion and, while it cleaned off her makeup reasonably well, it also stung her eyes a bit.  Overall, this pricey cleansing foam does the job it promises – it cleans your skin without drying it and leaves it smooth.  Then again, generic drugstore brands have been known to do the same.  So, is it worth the $65 price tag?  The BK Squad says no.  Save your money for a cute pair of shoes instead.

tarte-multipleye-lash-enhancerTarte MultiplEYE Lash Enhancer ($65.00)

Wouldn’t it be great to have naturally lush, long lashes without the scary disclaimers that the prescription-only Latisse® advertises.  That’s where the MultiplEYE Lash Enhancer intends to make a lot of money.  After all, their product is based off of natural ingredients and only warns about possible stinging or redness to the eye.  No eye color change is mentioned.  While MultiplEYE does not work nearly as well as Latisse – in fact, in cannot even compare – it does condition your lashes and help them fall out less frequently.  Do your lashes grow thicker or longer with MultiplEYE?  No, but keeping them is something.  Just maybe not worth $65.

nars-eye-liner-pencilNARS Eye Liner Pencil ($20.00)

NARS does so many things well, that’s why it was a surprise to find a product that did not deliver.  Unfortunately, their eye liners are hit or miss.  Some colors go on smoothly and last, while others are gone in minutes from your eyes and have a hard consistency making application difficult.  One product out of their many, in a vast collection, to receive mixed reviews is still a pretty good average.  Stick with your favorite Chanel, Bourgeois or drugstore brand on this one though.

benefit-silky-finish-lipstickBenefit Silky-Finish Lipstick ($18.00)

A lipstick is supposed to go on smoothly, provide some moisture to your lips and stay on all day.  Benefit’s lipstick fits two out of the three.  It misses on lasting a long time.  It is not the best lipstick that BK Squad members have tested, nor is it the worst.  It is somewhere in the pretty good category.  If you can get a sample, it is worth keeping.  Otherwise, weigh your options.

eucerin-original-moisturizing-lotionEucerin Original Moisturizing Lotion ($9.50)

Eucerin is a trusted brand by dermatologists.  It deserves this endorsement as it does not clog pores and moisturizes well.  Some BK Squad members use this lotion on their bodies, and others use it on their face for extra hydration or to calm any tightness after applying a retinol cream.  In general, the lotion takes its time to sink into your skin, but once it does, it is not going anywhere and provides a subtle sheen.  The one challenge for Eucerin is to make the moisturizing effect last longer, which was a common complaint among testers.  Overall, this is a good basic lotion to include on your vanity counter.

Welcome to another edition of BeautyKnockouts.com!  Check out the products below.

cutex-nail-polish-remover-one-touch-pumpCutex Nail Polish Remover One-Touch Pump ($3.49)

When you use this special container to remove your nail polish, you will think you are at the salon getting a professional manicure.  It works the same way as the professional-grade bottles.  You flip open the cap, press down your cotton ball on top and the polish remover is pushed up through the small holes and into your cotton ball.  Frankly, it couldn’t be easier.  Begone the days of accidentally pouring your nail polish remover all over the counter.

carmex-moisture-plus-lip-balmCarmex Moisture Plus Lip Balm ($3.29)

Carmex makes a great lip balm designed for dry lips.  It’s too bad their hybrid of a lip gloss and a lip treatment does not hit the mark.  It is neither glossy enough to qualify as a lip gloss or soothing enough to make it a count as an old fashioned lip balm.  Carmex needs to go back to the drawing board on this one.  Try the Aveeno Lip Protectant previously recommended instead.

yves-saint-laurent-mascara-singulier-liftYves Saint Laurent Singulier Masacara Exaggerated Lift ($30.00)

So many mascaras, so little time.  This YSL mascara is different from their “Faux Cils” version.  It promises to lengthen, thicken and curl your lashes.  It has a twisted, bristle brush which appears cumbersome, but really isn’t.  You apply this mascara as you would any other and then hold it for a few seconds as you get to the ends of your lashes.  This ensures that your lashes will stay curled all day long.  This mascara works well, but the formula clumps ever so slightly in comparison to the results you get from a plastic bristle brush.  For a $30 mascara, the BK Squad expects more.

shiseido-perfect-rouge-lipstickShiseido Perfect Rouge Lipstick ($25.00)

Generally, Shiseido makes very good cosmetics.  This lipstick is somewhere between a stain and a matte cream.  It lasts a long time on your lips and stands up to food and drinks throughout the day.  However, it is also a bit drying.  If you want a stained mouth, then this lipstick will work well.  If you want moist lips, this is not the lipstick for you.

armani-luminous-silk-powderArmani Beauty Luminous Silk Powder ($44.00)

Armani has been covered quite a bit by the BK Squad.  It is for good reason.  Their products really are great and innovative.  Their face powder is also a winner.  It goes on sheer, comes in many different shades to match any skin tone and does not sink into pores.  It is a great option to cover those shiny spots on your T-zone or to set your makeup.  The only catch is it comes at a price.

prescriptives-flawless-skin-total-protection-concealerPrescriptives Flawless Skin Total Protection Concealer ($22.00)

When you have those days when your skin is out of control, behaving very badly and pimple-prone, it’s Prescriptives Flawless Concealer the rescue!  This concealer is unique due to its nature – it looks like a cream, but acts more like a powder.  That means it has incredible coverage and, better yet, stays put all day.  To boot, it has an SPF 25 which is great for undereye circles after staying out past your bedtime.  Because Prescriptives makes this concealer, it comes in many different warm and cool hues to match virtually any skin tone, which makes it practically perfect.  For those worst case face scenarios, this concealer earns its keep in your makeup bag.

bobbi-brown-perfectly-defined-mascaraBobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Mascara ($22.00)

Bobbi Brown does so many things well.  However, her mascara is a bit of an exception.  Yes, the mascara goes on very dark.  Yes, it separates your lashes.  Yes, it even lengthens and holds curl well.  What it doesn’t do is keep clumps away and remove easily with warm water as advertised.  This was a disappointment.  If you can get a free sample, then it is worth keeping, just don’t go out of your way to buy it.  You can do better and cheaper.

Living Proof Products

First, BK Squad members have raved about the Living Proof anti-frizz solution products.  Second, using the products has been a bizarre experience for all.  Last, they are all absolutely right.  If you are ready to splurge on your hair products, then these are definitely the ones to try.  See the details below:

living-proof-shampooLiving Proof Shampoo Frizz For All Hair Types ($24.00)

Usually when you uncap a new shampoo, you are overwhelmed with a flowery or fruity scent.  That is not the case here.  This sulfate-free shampoo smells like a hair cleanser would before any perfume is added.  The scent is not terrible, but it is not great.  After wetting your hair, apply a small amount.  The shampoo lathers well, so you do not need to use a lot.  When you rinse it out, do not be alarmed by the amount of squeaking your clean hair does, your highlights and color will still be there.  All previous hair products have been cleansed from your hair and the Living Proof anti-frizz system has begun its work.

living-proof-conditionerLiving Proof Conditioner Frizz For All Hair Types ($24.00)

Like the shampoo, this sulfate-free conditioner has more of a chemical smell than the ones you typically buy.  Again, apply a small amount.  At first, your hair will feel slick.  Then, when you rinse it out, the moisture that was there seems to vanish.  It’s as if your strands suck up every ounce of conditioner and repel water at the same time.  This is when the Living Proof experience takes on a new life.  Upon exiting the shower, you will notice that your hair already looks different.  Any curl you have is more defined, with your ringlets holding their shape with the other hairs on your head.  Even after towel drying, you will note the difference in the lack of frizz developing in your hair.

living-proof-styling-creamLiving Proof Straight Making No Frizz Styling Cream ($24.00)

The last step is using the styling cream, which works well for straight and curly styles. It is bizarre and wonderful all at the same time.

keratin-by-coppolaKeratin Hair Treatments ($300.00 - $400.00)

This week’s edition is all about Keratin by Coppola and Brazilian Keratin hair treatments.  After talking with BK Squad members and top hair stylists, I decided that they both deserve their own special issue.  Let’s get started.

What is a Keratin hair treatment?

A Keratin hair treatment is a solution that is applied to your hair in a salon that will smooth the cuticle of each hair and prevent frizz from happening regardless of the weather.  Yes, even on Florida-like, humid days.  Seriously.

So, what is the difference between Keratin by Coppola and the Brazilian Keratin hair treatments?  In essence, they both work the same way.  They smooth the cuticle of each strand and prevent moisture from entering your hair that causes frizz.  Some have mentioned about the Brazilian Keratin hair treatment containing more formaldehyde than the Keratin by Coppoloa brand, but the hair stylists consulted said it is negligible.

How does the process work?

After your hair stylist applies the Keratin, your hair is then flat-ironed pin straight.  Then, you must wait three days before washing your hair.  You are not allowed to do anything that involves water – that includes exercising and, naturally, washing your hair.  In addition, you are not allowed to pull your hair back into a ponytail or do anything that would put a crimp in your new tresses.  You must live with your hair bone straight and dirty for an excruciating 72 hours.   Then, you can finally wash your hair!

Recommendation:  Do not do this before an evening out, a party or possible run-in with an ex-boyfriend.

How will my hair look after I wash it the first few times?

One word – fabulous!  Your hair will be smooth, soft and, best of all, frizz-free.  It is every girl’s fantasy.  Wake up with ready-to-go, incredibly silky hair every single day.  Some BK Squad members with very curly hair are able to get their hair straight by just patting down their hair after they shower.  Yes, really.  Others found that their curl was simply relaxed and much more manageable.    And, those with straight, but 80’s rock band hair, praise their Keratin treatment to no end.  Any way you go about it, everyone is ecstatic with their results and plan to do it again despite the hefty cost.

How long with the results last?

Results vary, but the consensus is four to six months.

So, how much are you willing to pay to get rid of all your bad, frizzy hair days for the next few months?  $300 doesn’t sound like so much anymore, does it.

That’s all for this week.  Have fun trying trusted products and enjoy!

Welcome to another edition of BeautyKnockouts.com!  Check out the products below.

clinique-makeup-brush-cleanerClinique Makeup Brush Cleaner ($13.00)

In order to keep bacteria away, it’s a good idea to clean your makeup brushes at least every few months.  Clinique has created a solution to easily help you through the process.  It is a clear, pink liquid that you apply to your brushes, rub in and rinse out.  It works well and is gentle.  Then again, baby shampoo works pretty well too.  So, save your money, clean your makeup brushes with a cheap, tear-free shampoo and pat yourself on the back for banking a few extra dollars.

bobbi-brown-crystal-lip-glossBobbi Brown Crystal Lip Gloss ($17.00)

The ideal lip gloss is long-lasting, smooth on your lips and easy to apply.  Bobbi Brown succeeds in two of the three.  The Crystal Lip Gloss lasts a long time, relatively speaking, and is easy to apply with its angled tip, tube applicator.  Unfortunately, it is also very sticky.  It is hard to get past that one flaw.  Stick with previously recommended brands.

chanel-eye-makeup-removerChanel Demaquillant Yeux Intense

Gentle Biphase Eye Makeup Remover ($32.00)

Undeniably, Chanel does most things well.  Their eye makeup remover is no exception.  With other makeup removers you can sometimes forget what your eyes look like without any residual eyeliner.  Chanel brings your eyes back to their au natural state.  In addition, the skin around your eyes is left feeling smooth and supple.  Chanel’s eye makeup remover works a little better than a generic brand, or baby shampoo, but it sure has a hefty price tag.

herbal-essences-hello-hydrationHerbal Essences Hello Hydration

2-in-1 Shampoo and Conditioner ($4.39)

Herbal Essences should have called this two-in-one shampoo and conditioner “Hello Tangled Mess.”  It does very little for hydrating your hair and much more for making your life more difficult, which really isn’t the point.  After all, by skipping a shampoo or conditioner step, you should have a few more minutes available during your morning or post-gym routine.  Do yourself a favor and skip this step completely.  Use your usual shampoo and conditioner instead and wait for something better.

loccitane-ultra-rich-eye-balmL’Occitane’s Shea Butter Ultra Rich Eye Balm ($32.00)

L’Occitane’s Eye Balm has a silky, whipped texture.  After a BK Squad member tested this product for a few weeks, she found that the wonderful feel of it was not enough.  Overall, it dries quickly and is a great base for eye concealer.  However, the downside is that does not minimize any under-eye circles.  Our BK Squad member gives this product a B-.  It’s time for L’Occitane to go back to school.

skintimate-moisturizing-cream-shaveSkintimate Moisturizing Cream Shave ($3.49)

With their user-friendly shaving gel and nice packaging, Skintimate has the market covered when it comes to shaving products for women.  Their brand-new edition is more like an extremely thick lotion than a light shaving cream.  The moisturizing cream shave goes on smooth enough, but doesn’t glide over your skin as much as you would hope.  Unfortunately, same goes for the razor.  If you don’t mind cleaning your razor after each and every stroke, then this might be the shaving cream for you.  All others, use soap, body wash or your usual shaving gel and wait for an improved version.

lancome-artliner-precision-point-eyelinerLancôme Artliner Precision Point Eyeliner ($28.00)

If you like the cat eye, dark top eyeliner look, then Lancôme has made an eyeliner to help you achieve it.  Imagine a felt pen that acts like Pinocchio with its extra long tip.  The saturated color glides on your upper lash line.  It works as well as a little, wet eyeyliner brush would, without the extra glass of water by your side to keep the brush wet.  So, it works.  Does it take some practice?  Absolutely, but so does a wet eyeliner brush.  Give it a try for your next cat eye engagement.

neutrogena-pure-and-free-baby-sunblock-lotionNeutrogena Baby Paba Free Sunblock Lotion, SPF 60+ ($10.99)

No need to mince words here – do not buy this sunblock.  The sunscreen works, of course, but it just might ruin your wardrobe.  Women make a lot of sacrifices for fashion, but zinc oxide stains are not one of them.  You know those silly photos of lifeguards back in the 80’s with white or neon orange sunscreen on their noses?  Well, that is what you are applying to your skin when you use Neutrogena’s Paba Free Sunblock.  Consequently, you look whiter after applying the sunscreen, which is never a desired effect before displaying your body in a swimsuit in front of friends or strangers.  One person in the BK Squad actually still has a white handprint stain on her car door from using this sunblock just before going to the beach.  Enough said.

yvessaintlaurent-mascara-volume-effet-faux-cilsYves Saint Laurent Mascara Faux Cils ($28.50)

Yves Saint Laurent does a good job with their mascara.  The formula is smooth and does give you fuller looking lashes.  The catch is the clumps.  As discussed in previous issues, it is really hard to get around that problem without a plastic bristled brush which does such a good job of separating lashes.  At over $28, it is hard to say this is a buy when there are other great mascaras out there for far less.  Check out past BeautyKnockouts.com editions for other recommendations.

physicians-formula-eye-shadowPhysicians Formula Shimmer Strips

Custom Eye Enhancing Shadow & Liner ($10.95)

Compared to department store brands, Physician’s Formula does a good job at providing value for your money.  With their eye color enhancing eye shadows, they make a smooth formula that glides onto your eyelids nicely.  As with some other drugstore brands, the catch is the saturation of the eye shadow itself.  Unless you are going for a barely there look, it is hard to layer and vary the use of the eye shadows.  All the colors basically look the same on your eye, which kind of isn’t the point of having so many colors in one palate.  Physicians Formula eye shadows are a fine drugstore choice, but you can do a lot better.

olay-regenerist-filling-and-sealing-wrinkle-treatmentOlay Regenerist Filling + Sealing Wrinkle Treatment ($19.99)

There is always hope when new products come on the market.  There is the hope that your fine lines will magically disappear if you use what is touted as a miracle cream.  Unfortunately, too often we are let down like we are with this line filler.  Simply put, it is not Botox or Restylane or any of those other plastic surgeon quick fixes.  Application is a bit tricky and the results are minimal.  You might notice a slight difference, but to everyone else you will look the same and that isn’t really the point, is it.  Forgo this product and wait for over-the-counter cosmetics to catch up to the plastic surgeons.

olay-body-wash-plus-tone-enriching-ribbonsOlay Body Wash with Tone Enriching Ribbons ($7.99)

Olay redeems itself with this body wash which keeps its promise.  After a few days of use, this body wash puts tiny and subtle pieces of shimmer on the surface of your skin to give your body a flattering sheen.  The body wash smells nice and moisturizes adequately in comparison to other body washes.  If you have dry skin, you may need to lather on your favorite lotion afterwards.  Either way, your new glow will shine through.

chanel-levres-scintillantes-glossimerChanel Levres Scintillantes Glossimer ($27.00)

Chanel has done it again with their Glossimer lip gloss.  Believe it or not, this gloss can be applied in different ways – lightly for a sheer wash, heavily for the full shiny look or anything in between.  The only catch is that it is a little sticky.  On the plus side, because of the stickiness, the gloss lasts a littler longer on your lips than the standard lip gloss.  If you want to splurge, then try a Chanel Glossimer.

ojon-ultra-hydrating-conditionerOjon Ultra Hydrating Conditioner ($22.00)

Ojon claims to be the top hair product for “the people of beautiful hair.”  It is a fine conditioner, but not great.  The BK Squad and I had high expectations that were let down.  Don’t be fooled by the marketing.  Stick with the previously recommended Pantene and Redken brands.

scalpicin-maximum-strengthScalpicin Maximum Strength ($7.49)

This product is for those times when the shampoo person at your salon did not get out all the highlight, lowlight or base color from your hair.  So, where your roots and scalp meet is a bit singed and causes you to scratch your head like crazy and look like you have a bad case of dandruff or worse.  Suffer no more.  It is Scalpicin to the rescue.  Application is easy and can be done directly from the bottle.  To boot, this product actually dries your roots a bit and therefore boosts the volume in your hair.  It acts like all those root booster products out there for half the cost.  Give it a try and be sure to tell the next shampoo person to rinse well.

That’s all for this week.  Have fun trying trusted products and enjoy!

Welcome to another edition of BeautyKnockouts.com!  Check out the products below.

j-f-lazartigue-hair-gelJ.F. Lazartigue Straightening Hair Gel ($55.00)

J.F. Lazartigue had their heyday in the 80’s.  That’s when they were the go to product of top hair stylists and celebrities.  Well, they are still around and trying to make a new mark on today’s tresses.  Do they succeed?  Yes and No.  Yes, because their hair styling cream works well when blowing out your hair and prevents frizz.  No, because it is so expensive to buy this cream that you may have to forgo the nice dinner out where you wanted to show off your new hairdo.  That’s a choice you never want to make.  Stick with cheaper brands.

neutrogena-deep-clean-facial-cleanserNeutrogena Deep Clean Facial Cleanser ($6.49)

The claim is that by using this cleanser, your face will be free and clear of any dirt or residue from your day.  Honestly, the BK Squad and I had a hard time telling if this product actually worked.  It did a fine job cleaning our faces, but was it a deep clean?  Without a magnifier to see our pores, we weren’t sure.  Ultimately, this is a fine cleanser and more or less keeps its promise.  As they say, what you don’t know, won’t hurt you.

chanel-quadra-eye-shadowChanel Quadra Eye Shadow ($56.00)

The quintessential, haute couture company, Chanel, has done a wonderful job with their eye shadows, and, as they should given the hefty price tag.  If you think of each eye shadow costing $14, then the sticker shock is not nearly as bad.  When one color shimmers, another will be matte.  These eye shadows go on smooth, can be layered for a more dramatic look or used with a light touch for a sheer wash.  The bottom-line is Chanel has done it again.

olay-quench-body-lotionOlay Quench Body Lotion ($9.99)

The BK Squad and I had great hopes for this lotion.  The commercials and ads look so promising.  Too bad it is false advertising.  The lotion goes on smooth and does a fine job of moisturizing the surface of your skin, but that’s about it – no full “quenching.”  Oh well.  Wait for further research, development and a better body lotion from Olay.

gillette-venus-embraceGillette Venus Embrace, Razor for Women ($12.99)

If you are not using these razors yet, start using them!  You will notice a big difference right away.  Venus is the superior shaving brand out there and their 5-blade Embrace razors are no exception.  They give you an incredibly close shave with all the comfort you would expect.  This is a must-have product – no ifs, nicks or cuts about it.
